Biography

Doug was born May 19th 1956 in Madison WI. Through out his childhood Doug found pleasure in art and music. When he traveled to England after high school he spent most of his time in London in the National and the Tate Art Galleries. During this time his passion for painting was cemented. Though out the years of hard work to provide for a young family, Doug would spend much of his spare time in Art classes with Ron Lukas (now art director of Dream Works Studio) and studied in the Russian Impressionist style. In the last five years Doug’s main teacher was Susan Diehl and he continue continued to develop his skills with such great artist as Bill Reese, Henry Stinson and Simon Kogan. While Doug spent most of his time in work and family, his passion, after his family was art. In the last 5 years he has been painting full time. Doug is interested in color and light and it’s interaction on objects, whether stillife or landscape.

Artist Statement

Life abounds in experiences that give the artist an excuse to try, through paint to connect with the viewer. To communicate the simple beauties that are all around us; light as it wraps around a cup, or as it dances though a glass. The close intimate scene or the grand vista, each one offers the painter the same age old challenges- values, edges, composition, color harmonies and drawing. My goal as a painter is basic; to paint the everyday beauty that is our lives.
