CONCEPTION

TO

COMPLETION

Step 1    Step 2    Step 3    Step 4    Step 5    Step 6

Step 1:

Contact us  You/Your designer has a telephone conversation with us.

Object: to discuss the fresco in concept. Questions will be asked as to the style of the house, colors used in the room where the fragment is to hang, ideas as to the type of imagery i.e.: figurative, architectural, landscape, etc.

In our example, the fresco concept conversation with the designer came up with these parameters for the fragments.

- Casa California/Spanish hacienda style house

- Location: The Study/ office

- Spanish influenced imagery

- Colors of room deep rich, earth greens and reds, sienna, umber.

- Masculine feel

- Size- Large, Virtually filling Space behind the desk.

Step 2:

If your space is in our geographic area we can set up an appointment to come look at it. If you are located at a distance, photos and room plans are sufficient.

Step 3:

Research- In our example the search narrowed our possibilities down to 3 images. This research can be done by you, the designer, and/or Old World Artisans. After e-mailing, faxing, and mailing these images to each other, we narrow down the selection to the 4 chair bearers, a section of “The Mass at Bolsena” by Raphael.

Note: It is decided the fresco image would work best reversed, as the figures would face into the room and not out the window.

Step 4:

We work on the exact shape and design of the fragment itself and how it will hang. We take into account large pieces of furniture, windows, etc. This is a very essential part of the finished look of the fresco and great care is taken in this step for the fragment to have proper balance, movement, and variation.

In our example, the shape we choose is on the left. We believe it has great rhythm and strength to support the section of the fragment chosen.

Step 5:

In this step we finalize the exact composition within the fragment. Sometimes interpretations or adjustments are needed at this step. In our example a figure on the far left was eliminated. In some images architectural features are moved; or figures adjusted to make the fragment work as a piece of art.
